Lighting should help a client understand the kitchen. It should reveal the worktop, fronts, handles, appliances, and circulation without making a finish look like another product or turning an illustrative glow into an apparent part of the quote. A structured review separates atmosphere from evidence.
Classify each apparent light source before judging the polished image. Is it recorded in the project, retained room context, or presentation-only atmosphere? Then ask whether its effect helps the viewer read the design without changing the apparent finish, hiding a sold detail, or implying a feature that is not included.

Identify every window, rooflight, pendant, downlight, under-cabinet strip, plinth effect, and unexplained glow. Trace the dominant direction and compare positions with the original design and project record. Remove or clarify effects that have no defensible source.
Check that islands, tall units, stools, pendants, and small appliances cast compatible shadows. Look for floating plinths, handles without contact shadows, dark gaps that swallow front divisions, and a bright worktop whose objects cast light in the opposite direction.
Review the horizontal plane, upstand, splashback, seams, cut-outs, and edges. Highlights should describe the surface rather than erase pattern, flatten thickness, create false wet patches, or merge the worktop into a similarly coloured wall finish.
Compare light and dark fronts, woodgrain, painted finishes, glass, metal, and handles with the original image and current samples. Check whether warm or cool light makes one specified finish look like another, or glare changes matt fronts into an apparent gloss product.
Place the establishing view, island view, tall-unit view, and details together. Daylight direction, fitting state, colour character, shadow depth, worktop appearance, and cabinet finish should describe one understandable condition unless a deliberate comparison is clearly labelled.
A dramatic kitchen image can remain attractive while losing commercial detail. Deep shadow can hide a filler, door split, handle, appliance fascia, worktop joint, or the boundary between a splashback and painted wall. Strong bloom can do the same at the bright end by washing out edges and hardware.
View the image at normal meeting size, not only zoomed in. If an important detail disappears, correct the local effect, provide a supporting view, or use the original image to explain the design. Do not brighten the whole room until the material response becomes flat and artificial.

Light changes what a surface looks like. NIST explains that colour and appearance depend on illumination and viewing conditions, while gloss, haze, and reflectance are separate appearance attributes. That makes a kitchen render useful for discussing atmosphere and contrast, but unsuitable as the sole record for approving a cabinet or worktop finish.
Colour-rendering metrics do not turn a presentation image into a sample. The CIE's method evaluates colour shifts of test objects under light sources, and NIST notes that colour fidelity is only one part of colour quality. A stated lamp metric cannot verify how a processed screen image represents a particular kitchen product.
Return to current physical samples and supplier information for selection. EGGER explicitly says colour-matching decor selections are only possible on the original sample. Apply the wider principle to all suppliers: the visual supports conversation; the current sample and project record govern the finish decision.

Check type, count, position, scale, and switched state. A pendant or wall light that appears in the image can look included even when added only for composition.

"Make it brighter" is too broad. It can change the entire room and create a new problem. Name the affected area, the reference, the visible defect, and what must stay unchanged. For example: "Reduce the clipped highlight on the island so the quoted worktop pattern remains visible; keep the camera, cabinet colour, pendant count, and window direction unchanged."
Stop release when lighting adds an apparent product, removes a specified fitting, hides an important sold detail, changes a finish identity, or contradicts another view.
Retry or annotate when the design remains understandable but glare, colour cast, shadow depth, or illustrative lighting could create a false impression.
